Can you coat brass (gold color) to look like brushed nickel?

I have 2 brass doorbell pipes in my house, and I want to make them look like brushed nickel. I tried to find new ones but that was impossible. Is there a way to coat these to make them look like brushed nickel? I am changing all the fixtures in my house from gold to brushed nickel (door knobs, chandelier, fireplace doors, & doorbell pipes).
