Is 3 light crystal chandelier bright enought for breakfast table?

Three lights are fine using the new green bulbs that yield 60w. I have a 6 light chandelier and it was way too bright and i unscrewed three bulbs and am using three now. If the lights are hooded, directing the light downwards, this is fine. Using the proper chandelier which directs the light downwards is what you want. Why direct the light to the ceiling? A big waste of energy.
